Closing report Interzoo 2006

  Interzoo 2006 excelled with new records. At the world's biggest pet supplies exhibition from 11-14 May, 1,275 exhibitors (2004: 1,101) from 56 nations (2004: 47) presented their latest range of food, grooming aids, pet accessories and services on a total display area of 78,900 square metres (2004: 68,700 square metres). The 29th Interzoo registered 10 per cent more visitors with 34,181 trade visitors (2004: 31,072) from 108 countries (2004: 103) and 16 per cent more exhibitors.

  The share of international companies exhibiting at Interzoo 2006 rose to 75 per cent (2004: 73 per cent). The leading exhibiting nations besides Germany with 321 companies (2004: 296) were the People's Republic of China with 160 (2004: 126), the USA with 129 (2004: 111) and Italy with 100 (2004: 105) companies. The internationality of the visitors also increased and the share of visitors from abroad rose to 58 per cent (2004: 53 per cent).

  Interzoo 2006 registered more visitors from all continents. Altogether 24,119 visitors (2004: 23,147) – four per cent more than in 2004 – came from the old EU member states. Attendance from the new EU member states with 2,735 visitors (2004: 2,456) was up 11 per cent. Noticeably more visitors came to Nürnberg from Eastern Europe (plus 25 per cent). A total of 3,757 visitors (2004: 3,007) came from Eastern Europe. The number of visitors from all European countries rose by seven per cent to 29,349 (2004: 27,346).

  Attendance from overseas was also up with increases of 33 per cent from North America (to 860), 31 per cent from South and Central America (to 451) and 41 per cent from Australia/Oceania (to 350). There were 287 visitors from Africa (plus 35 per cent) and 2,884 from Asia (plus 27 per cent).

  The promoter of Interzoo is Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF), which has appointed NürnbergMesse GmbH for the organization of the exhibition. The next Interzoo takes place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 22-25 May 2008.
