Fressnapf expands into Italy as Maxi Zoo

On 15 December the German trading company Fressnapf Tiernahrungs GmbH will open its first store in Italy under the Maxi Zoo name.

The shop is located in the northern Italian city of Treviso, has 600 square meters of floor space and carries the usual Fressnapf range of products supplemented by Italian brands. The shop will offer a total of around 5,000 different items.
The master franchise partner and CEO of the Fressnapf subsidiary Maxi Zoo Italia S.p.A. is Christopher Spitzley. Aged 41, he was previously managing director of the Italian discount store chain Eurospin, and has occupied senior positions in the Italian retail trade since 1994.

With 514 pets for every 1000 inhabitants, Italy has the third highest rate of pet ownership in Europe. Fressnapf plans to open at least four more stores in northern Italy during 2006.
