British retailer Tesco will open more than 40 stores in central Europe this year in a bid to boost its overseas operations, particularly in thriving Central European markets. According to a Financial Times report Tesco, which currently operates 194 stores in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, plans to boost that number to around 234 stores. The group announced no other details, but is expected to issue details when it reports its earnings statement this week. Tesco, the UK's biggest food retailer, controls nearly 30 per cent of the market and is focusing on its overseas operations to achieve growth targets.
