Tetra cares about sustainability

Oct 19, 2013

Tetra only uses fishmeal sourced from sustainable fisheries, certified by the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation (IFFO), points out the company in a current press release. “Tetra's corporate strategy and principles demonstrate the company's commitment to sustainability and the responsible use of natural resources,” stresses the company, referring to the programme of the IFFO, which aims to ensure the responsible sourcing and production of fishmeal and fish oil.

IFFO-RS-certified fisheries have been independently scientifically assessed and meet the key principles of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation Code of Conduct for responsible fisheries – according to Tetra, the only internationally recognised measure of good fisheries management.

One of the key objectives is to protect stocks, habitats and the wider environment, e.g. by controlling fishing gear to reduce catches of juveniles, by-catch and environmental damage and by respecting closed seasons, closed areas and restricted fishing.
