PetEdge Inc., a Beverly, Mass.-based manufacturer and distributor of pet care supplies and equipment, has consolidated its two distribution centers in Massachusetts into one 225,000-square-foot facility. The new distribution center, located in Billerica, Mass., opened May 3.
"For the past few years we have been steadily growing our company," PetEdge president Andy Katz said. "Two years ago we moved the PetEdge corporate office from Topsfield, Mass., to a larger office space in Beverly. Now we are investing in a larger distribution facility to accommodate our need to serve more customers, improve delivery times and increase efficiencies to cut cost and keep our prices lower than competitors."
The new distribution center is 20 percent larger than the company's previous distribution facilities and will result in 40 percent more capacity, according to Phil Dominici, PetEdge's director of marketing strategy. The company also worked with outside consultants to improve the overall flow and invest in more technology, he said.
"Really what all those things means is we'll be able to ship faster, increase order accuracies, improve fill rates and really just provide a better level of service to our customers," Dominici said.
It addition to the space used for distribution purposes, the new facility houses a new outlet store that has a larger product offering than the previous one and will provide faster service, Dominici said.
The move is not expected to affect PetEdge's Nevada distribution center or overseas facilities.
